The sand at Gore has been mined from the Devonian-age Ridgeley sandstone for more than 80 years — one of Virginia's premier high-purity silica deposits. Gore Mining Company has taken the reins to bring the operation back online and modernize it for today's construction, industrial, and energy markets.

Phased mining and progressive reclamation return worked benches to stable, vegetated ground while the pit is still active.
Water stewardship
Closed-loop wash water and settling ponds recycle process water and protect the watershed around the deposit.
